The award is given to Britta Marakatt-Labba for her four decades as a storyteller of essential stories in the Sámi cultural heritage. Her striking imagery and riveting motifs from Sámi mythology and social, cultural and political history have forged new paths for generations of Sámi artists.

The John Savio award is awarded by The Relief Fund for Visual Artists in cooperation with Sámi Artist Association and Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum. The price money of NOK 150.000 is awarded to an artist with Sámi background and identity who has made a special contribution to the arts in Norway, either through recent projects or oeuvre.

Music by Risten A. Kvernmo Gaup, speeches by representatives from the awarding organizations, The Sámi Parliament and the award winner.

Free entrance, open to all.
