Individual features the art of portraiture. The works displayed represent the variations in this genre that are among the museum’s collection. A portrait is an image of a person, however, not simply an illustration, but moreover a statement about an individual. Portraiture has a long-standing tradition and remains a vibrant art form today. Today’s portraits range from classic self-portraits to so-called “selfies” and/or QR codes that are scanned by mobile phone.

The exhibition focuses on contemporary works by several artists, such as Odd Nerdrum, Sverre Bjertnæs, Hilde Hauan Johnsen, Tom Sandberg and Anne-Karin Furunes. Also featured are works by historical artists like Matthias Stoltenberg and Knud Baade. The works vary in media from painting and textile to photography and video.
